20 Dec 2005 - Interclub 2005/2006 Mt Albert style Mt Albert a club that two years ago was predicted by many to fold, a club with no future and by all accounts--no members. Well not only were the doom-sayers proved to be very wrong but many are having to eat their words. Mt Albert even two years ago had some twenty members (more than many of the clubs predicting Mt Albert's demise). Today Mt Albert has a strong membership which (and almost more importantly) a very active membership both socially and competition wise. Also the club has had a stable committee for the last three years--a feat many clubs would like to be able to emulate and so onto the interclub . . . Our draw was an interesting one, round one we were up against the defending champions (Victoria Park) and our last round was to be against last years runners up (Herne Bay). We started off with a credible nine points which would turn out to be the second highest equal points to be scored against Vic Park all competition! Next we were up against Northcote where everybody gave a good account of themselves. Our first disappointment came in round four where we went down convincingly to Cockle Bay (a team we had done the same to in a pre-season warm up round earlier). Our performance here was to have cost us third place as it turned out! Other performances were to expectations for a team playing well until the final round, where due to personal circumstances we were not able to field our normal team, however the replacements stepped up to the plate and put up some very stolid performances to give us a final position of fourth with 133 points (with 115 points against), just 6 points behind Cockle Bay on 139 points in 3rd place. Finally well done to all those who played and/or supported us during the interclub up from 7th the previous year - way to go fellas! |
