New Zealand wins Oceania for the first time ever - 2005 saw the Kiwis beat their traditional rivals of Tahiti and New Caladonia with a total medal tally of nine medals: five golds, two silvers and two bronze.


GOLD Winners:

Men's Triples - Georgio Vakauta, Niau Ruta and Christian Fouguet

Men's Doubles - Georgio Vakauta and Niau Ruta

Men's Pointing - Niau Ruta

Women's Shooting - Sharron Cannon

Women's Pointing - Anita Fletcher


SILVER Winners:

Men's Singles - Georgio Vakauta

Women's Triples - Fiona Browne, Margaret Fleck, Barbara Johnson


BRONZE Winners:

Men's Pointing - Chris Priestly

Women's Shooting - Bethne Rouse


Overall Result:
1st:  New Zealand: 5 Gold, 2 Silver, 2 Bronze
2nd: Tahiti: 3 Gold, 3 Silver, 4 Bronze
3rd:  New Caledonia: 2 Gold, 3 Silver, 1 Bronze
4th:  Australia: 1 Silver, 3 Bronze
5th:  Wallis & Futuna: 1 Silver


This result has raised the bar considerably within New Zealand Petanque, a result to be justifiably proud of but one New Zealand will need to work hard at if it is not simply going to be a one off result.
